Quarterly public poster session on groundwater is this evening

By Public Affairs Office

February 2, 2005

A quarterly public poster session sponsored by the Laboratory's Groundwater Protection Program (RRES-GP) is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 this evening at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, located at 3347 Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe.

The poster session will inform the public about what has been learned about groundwater beneath and surrounding the Laboratory. The Laboratory has, through eight years of hydrogeologic data collection and analysis, developed a better understanding of the geology, hydrology and geochemistry of the Pajarito Plateau. The posters will provide basic information on geology, hydrology, geochemistry, regulatory context and drilling.

Poster authors will be present to answer questions and discuss findings. In addition, a video sponsored by the Laboratory, "Agua es Vida," will be shown from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The video highlights the scientific studies of groundwater hydrology and sustainability in the Española Basin to illustrate water resource issues typical of arid and semi-arid regions of the west. The video was produced by National Educational Technology Solutions, a small, woman-owned business in Albuquerque.
