September 25, 2002

Melissa Salazar Porter of Tritium Science and Engineering (ESA-TSE) sang the National Anthem and traditional Spanish music at Fuller Lodge during Tuesday's opening event for Hispanic Heritage Month sponsored by the Hispanic Diversity Working Group and the Diversity (DVO) Office. Also on Tuesday, a logo by Michelle Lopez of Information Management (HSR-IM) was chosen as the winner of the HDWG's logo contest. She received a $50 Chamber Check from the Los Alamos County Chamber of Commerce. About 50 logos were entered into the contest.

Beans and posole served by the Pojoaque High School cheerleading team were some of the foods available for purchase at Tuesday's Hispanic Heritage Month event at Fuller Lodge. The Mesa Vista High School Future Farmers of America and the Española Valley High School football booster clubs also prepared enchiladas, tacos and other traditional Hispanic foods to raise funds for their organizations. Shown left to right are Kayla Roybal, Angelica Maestas and Jeni Griego. Standing at back is Debra Griego of Project Quality (PM-18), Jeni Griego's mother. The Lab's Hispanic Heritage Month activities continue next week. For more information on Hispanic Heritage Month, go to http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/dvo/hdwg/hhm/hhmonth2.html online. Photos by LeRoy N.
