Gay Marriage
Gay marriage has become a hot button issue in recent years. Gay and lesbian activists have tried to circumvent federal law that denies same-sex couples the right to marry by taking legislation to the states. Vermont is currently the only state in the U.S. that grants same-sex couples the rights and benefits of marriage in the form of "civil unions."
