Purpose
The program is designed to assist nurses in practice, research, education and administration to apply evidence in diverse work settings and with ethnically diverse populations.

Nursing Credits:
0.74 CEUs for 04/27/2006 and 0.4 CEUs for 04/28/2006 will be granted by UI Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (Iowa Board of Nursing Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program each day to receive full credit.

The conference offers an opportunity for presenting current Evidence-Based Practice topics in poster or paper format. Networking with clinical experts is encouraged. The morning post-conference will offer in-depth discussion and mentoring on specific aspects of the evidence-based practice process and clinical examples. A novice and advanced track are planned as well as a track for educators teaching evidence-based practice in graduate and undergraduate nursing programs.

This year's conference will feature two keynote addresses: Implementing Evidence-Based Practices in the Home Health Setting: Unique Challenges and Opportunities by Penny Hollander Feldman, PhD; Director, Center for Home Care Policy and Research; Vice-President, Research and Evaluation, Visiting Nurse Service of New York, New York, New York. Cultural Considerations in Evidence-Based Practice by Polly Hulme, PhD, RN, Associate Professor, University of Nebraska College of Nursing.

Plenary sessions will include presentations on the application of evidence in diverse clinical settings such as home health care, and with diverse patient populations such as Hispanics, American Natives, and others. A panel will discuss the complexities and issues of implementing evidence-based practice changes with specific patient populations. Abstract presentations on evidence-based practice and the conduct of research from professionals throughout the country will highlight the afternoon. Additional presentations will cover evidence based practice interventions for acute and chronic conditions treated in diverse healthcare settings, diverse patient populations, and diverse working conditions such as disaster stricken areas.
