Agriculture Library

The Agriculture Library is a branch library serving the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences.

Marine Studies Library Picture It provides a specialized collection of 21,000 books and bound periodical volumes on animal & food sciences, plant & soil sciences, entomology, wildlife management, agricultural engineering technology & biotechnology, and food & resource economics. The library subscribes to or has electronic access to many periodicals and scholarly journals and has a collection of reserve materials available both in the library and electronically for students in classes in the College. The Library is located in 025 Townsend Hall, with seating for 24, including six computer stations. Library Services

  • Reference Services

    Reference service and research assistance are available from the desk at the Agriculture Library or from the Morris Library Reference Desk, 302-831-2965. Alternatively, you may reach the subject specialist in agricultural sciences, Fritz Getze, at 831-2530 or via E-mail. University students, staff, and faculty have access to over 190 databases through Library Databases. Also available is Ask a Librarian, an electronic reference service providing responses in real time or within one working day to brief reference questions, and Virtual Reference, a guide to ready reference resources freely available on the Web.

  • Circulation Services:

    Books and other materials can be borrowed, under regular Library regulations, through check out at the Agriculture Library service desk, 831-2530. Please remember to bring your I.D. card, which is required for all check outs. You may access a list of materials charged to you electronically through Books I have Checked Out. A book may be recalled electronically when Delcat indicates it is checked out to another user. If you have difficulty with these online circulation services, see this FAQ Page.

  • Reserve Materials:

    All books, journal articles, photocopies, and other items needed for course reserve by faculty and instructors in the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences should be submitted to the Agriculture Library staff. You may use the form Agriculture Library Reserve Form, which can be completed in Word and submitted in person or as an e-mail attachment to Agriculture Library staff. Course reserves are available in Morris Library and each branch library. Please ask staff at the appropriate location for specific guidelines for putting items on reserve. Faculty and instructors are invited to participate in the University of Delaware Library Electronic Reserves as well as traditional reserves.   • Interlibrary Loan:

    If the University of Delaware Library does not own a book or journal volume that you need for research, you may use Interlibrary Loan to obtain the item from another library. An electronic Request Form is provided for your use in finding this material, or you may also call Interlibrary Loan at 831-2236.

  • New Book Shelf:

    Books recently added to the Agriculture Library are displayed on a New Book Shelf near the reference collection. Access to a list of material newly added to Morris Library is available on the Web through the Morris Library Electronic New Book Shelf.

Library Collections and Resources

  • Coverage of the Collection:

  • Information about the locations of Agriculture Library material is outlined below.

    • Bound journals dated prior to 1970 or with electronic equivalents are likely to be shelved in the Library Annex. This is indicated by a "Library Annex --Ask at Circulation" message in the Delcat location screen. Please use the Annex Request Form to obtain those journal volumes. Your request will be filled in 1-2 working days. Phone for more information: 831-2530.

    • There is a small collection of Reference Books (AGR. REF.) shelved by the windows and reading tables, to the left as you walk in.

    • Other (circulating) Books (AGR.) are shelved in open stacks in the front section of bookstacks, behind the Electronic Resources computers. Older books are located in Morris Library (see below for more info).

    • Reserve Material: all books, journal articles, photocopies, and other items needed for course reserve for College of Agriculture classes are available through the Service Desk in the Agriculture Library. For information on Morris Library reserve material, see http://www.lib.udel.edu/ud/reserve/. Some material may be available from any campus network connection through Electronic Reserves: http://www.lib.udel.edu/ud/reserve/erinfo.html.

    • Bound journals from 1990 on are shelved in open stacks just beyond the books in the Agriculture Library. Bound volumes from 1970's and 1980's are located in the Morris Library stacks. See Delcat for exact locations and holdings.

    • Current (unbound) Periodicals and Journals are shelved by title in their own sections of shelving to the left of the bookstacks, by the windows.
  • Requests for Purchase:

    The Library welcomes suggestions for the purchase of books, journals, media, electronic media, microforms, and journal backfiles. Please give recommendations to library staff at the Agriculture Library, to the subject librarian, Fritz Getze, at 831-2530 or at fritzg@udel.edu, or use the online form Recommendation for Library Purchase.

Electronic Reserves
Submit instructor-owned materials only to the branch library assistant, i.e. course syllabus, lecture notes, problem sets/solutions, and sample exams. The University of Delaware Library also offers Electronic Reserve. Click here for more information about Electronic Reserve.

Circulation
Books may be checked out at the Agriculture Library. Please remember to bring your I.D. card, which is required for all check outs.
