Bly Ranger District:
Kbarn Roadside Fire Control Zones

This project would thin 100 to 300 feet wide corridors in timbered stands adjacent to certain roads to facilitate a more safe and effective area to initiate back burning control points for wildfire suppression efforts. The total area to be treated in the Kbarn project will not exceed 70 acres. All live trees over 21 inches dbh (diameter breast height) will be retained and the remaining understory trees will be thinned to a 40 - 60 basal area, which would be approximately 20 to 30 foot spacing. The average commercial tree to cut would be approximately 12 inches dbh. Commercial volume to be removed would be approximately 180 thousand board feet (MBF) to 340 MBF.
