Chiloquin Dam Removal Staging Area Project

This project is located on the south end of the dam that is slated for removal. The US Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) has requested a Forest Service Special Use Permit for access to and use of an area on the south side of the dam structure. The area would be used for storage of heavy equipment, portable office trailers, portable toilets, fuel storage, and explosives storage. They are also requesting the use of the existing road to the dam on the north side of the river. The area requested for use was partially cleared during dam construction, and is partly under the PPL power line right-of-way. The BOR will need to remove several trees to have adequate room for their needs. Access to the site will be through private property and across the Kircher's bridge, not through Forest Service road systems. Use of the site is expected to begin in 2007. For further information on this project, please contact the Chiloquin District Ranger, at 541-783-4001.
