Interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Society
The iCES is one of a number of cross-departmental centres at the
University designed to increase collaboration between disciplines and
departments and generate more income.
The iCES is an
interdisciplinary research centre located
which draws on the expertise of internationally renowned
departments and research centres in the University, including the
Departments/Schools of
Accounting, Finance and Management; Biological Sciences;
Computer Science and Electronic Engineering; Economics; Government;
Health and Human Sciences; Law;
.Literature, Film, and
Theatre Studies; Mathematics and Sociology. The
iCES is also
linked to the associate Writtle College of Agriculture.
It is engaged in a wide range of basic, applied and action-oriented
environmental research; capacity development, teaching and training; and
outreach through workshops, publications, seminars and prizes. The geographic focus of
the work ranges from the local to national and international, and covers
both industrialised and developing countries.
The Director of the iCES is Professor Jules Pretty and the
Assistant Director is Rachel Hine.
