PlantGDB is an NSF-funded project "Cyberinfrastructure for (Comparative) Plant Genome Research Through PlantGDB" to develop plant species-specific EST and GSS databases, to provide web-accessible tools and inter-species query capabilities, and to provide genome browsing and annotation capabilities. With PlantGDB you can:

  • ACCESS species-specific, nucleotide sequence for ~60,000 plant species and putative unique transcript assemblies (PUTs) for 100 plant species, using BLAST, Search, and Download tools;
  • EXPLORE gene space in 12 major crops and model plant species using custom genome browsers;
  • EVALUATE and DOCUMENT gene model evidence for your favorite plant species using spliced alignment and annotation tools;
  • LINK to genome resources worldwide through an outreach portal for plant genomic research.

Use menu bars at top and left to explore these and additional PlantGDB features. Or, scroll down to view Featured Highlights, a good place to start exploring PlantGDB.

What's New? [January-February 2009]
  • PlantGDB is at the Plant & Animal Genome Meeting, January 10-14, 2009. Stop by booth #407 (Plant Genome Databases) for a demo, or visit poster #809 (PlantGDB).
  • Plant sequence from GenBank Release 169 (December 15, 2008) has been uploaded to PlantGDB, and sequence download repository, ftp site and BLAST and GeneSeqer indices are being updated [January 11, 2009].
  • LjGDB, the genome browser for Lotus japonicus, has been updated to incorporate the recently-published Lotus draft genome sequence (Sato et al., 2008) [January 11, 2009].
  • GmGDB, the genome browser for Glycine max, has been updated to Version 167a EST/cDNA and PUT assembly. [November, 2008].

What's Coming?
  • PlantGDB is getting a facelift! A newly redesigned website is slated to be online by mid-March, featuring a new look and feel, improved navigation menus, and overview pages for all resources. You can view our progress by going to beta.plantgdb.org.
  • New transcript assemblies based on Version 169a are being built for approx. 30 species, including 13 new ones [completion expected by mid-January]. Check the EST Assembly Progress Page for current availability.
