HOTs Group

Over the past semester, the HOTS program has undertaken a special research project to mark the centennial of Iowa State University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Graduate students in the program put together a special display for VEISHEA in Coover Hall, featuring posters with text and photos about the department's 100 years, two sets of artifact exhibits of old electrical and computer equipment, and a Powerpoint slide show of old photos and an interactive quiz about the department.

Department of History

The History Department at Iowa State University was established as a separate department in 1969, having been for many decades before that time a part of the joint Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy. Since 1969, the Department has continued to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees over a variety of national, chronological, and specialized areas of historical study. It is possible for undergraduate students to both major and minor in History, and for graduate students to seek the MA and the PhD degrees.

History/Social Sciences Teacher Licensure Requirements
Students seeking teacher licensure in History and Social Sciences must complete a degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a primary major in either History or Political Science, while meeting the requirements for secondary teacher licensure (grades 7-12) established by the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Human Sciences.

History majors will earn endorsements in three subjects, United States History, World History and a third Social Science of their choice, while students who choose to major in Political Science will earn endorsements in two subjects, U.S. Government and either U.S. or World History.
