Introduction
The U.S. Department of Energy and its National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is organizing the Annual NETL CO2 Capture Technology for Existing Plants R&D Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, March 24-26, 2009. This meeting will provide a showcase for the CO2 capture related projects currently funded by the DOE/NETL Existing Plants program. This meeting will include project updates for ongoing research efforts along with overviews of recently awarded projects.

The DOE/NETL Existing Plants program has recently been refocused to focus on technologies capable of capturing greater than 90% of the CO2 from existing coal-fired power plants at less than a 35% increase in the cost of electrical services. These technologies are envisioned to be ready for commercial deployment by 2020.
