The NETL Albany (OR) laboratory's analytical facility is completely equipped with a unique combination of classical wet laboratories combined with state-of-the-art surface physics techniques that aid scientists in analyzing materials and the environment they are exposed to.

• Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).
• Automated X-ray diffraction equipment (XRD) for identification of crystal structures.
• A metallographic laboratory for mounting and polishing materials ranging from metals to ceramics to composites.
• Wavelength Dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) for highly accurate quantitative elemental analyses at low concentrations.
• X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) for surface chemistry and determinations of interactions of solid surfaces with gases and liquids.
• Differential thermal analyzers (DTA) for measurement of phase transitions, dehydration, reductions, oxidations, and crystallizations.
• Complete analytical chemistry lab that features a full wet chemistry lab for quantitative elemental analyses of both liquids and solids; sequential inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP) atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA); optical emission spectrometry, UV/Visible scanning spectrophotometer, mass spectrometer, gas chromatography; combustion analyzers for C, N, S, O; and ion chromatography for occurring anions, cations, and organic acids.
