Kosovar women cooperate for peace

Women's leader, Nena Rikalo lives in a Serbian enclave, completely isolated from Kosovar Albanian society. When Minister for International Development Cooperation, Gunilla Carlsson, met her during her visit to Kosovo, Nena spoke about how Kosovar Albanian women are now finding ways to be independent, as well as achieving reconciliation in the country.

Director-General of Sida in Afghanistan

Anders Nordström, the Director-General of Sida, has recently visited Afghanistan. The purpose of the visit was to gain an on-site understanding of how development cooperation is working in that country, as well as to begin efforts aimed at developing and expanding assistance to Afghanistan. Swedish assistance will increase to half a billion SEK per year until 2011. Democracy, education and the development of the private sector will be prioritised areas in development cooperation with Afghanistan.

Sida research a good model

The world's most respected journal of medicine, British the Lancet, in its November issue mentions Sida and its former department for research cooperation, SAREC, as good models. Sida is mentioned among other initiatives which have "greatly contributed to capacity strengthening of health research in sub-Saharan Africa", according to the Lancet.
