Raising iguanas: a strategy for their protection and conservation

Mexico

Received C$ 10000 in 1998

Green and black iguanas are endangered species on the coast of Chiapas, in part because they represent an important source of food and income for local people. An 'iguanarium' will be established consisting of a central reproductive center and smaller family-managed units. The iguanarium will serve to provide for local consumption and trade, restoration of wild populations, environmental education and promotion of ecotourism.
