This project will assist six communities in this region of high biodiversity to sustainably manage their forests. These communities have demonstrated a commitment to sustainable development and have accessed funding to carry out projects in sustainable agriculture, ecosystem restoration and natural resource management. This grant will support the capacity and institutional strengthening required to ensure that projects are carried out effectively and integrated into a comprehensive and long-term initiative leading to sustainable management of both timber and non-timber forest products (including medicinal plants), and agriculture. Materials generated by this project (e.g. manuals for natural resource accounting) are available for use by other organizations.
