In 2003, the U.S. EPA awarded 23 grants to school districts, air quality districts and other entities to help reduce school bus diesel emissions through a variety of retrofit and alternative fuel campaigns. Another 21 projects were awarded in 2004, and Congress approved $7.5 million for 2005.
