Invitation to attend the Fifteenth Regular Session of the CEC Council

Montreal, 22/05/2008 – The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is pleased to invite you to the 15th Regular Session of its Council and related events, to be held 25 and 26 June 2008, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

During this session, the CEC Council—composed of the environment ministers or equivalent officials of NAFTA partners Canada, Mexico and the United States, the Hon. John Baird, Secretary Juan Elvira Quesada, and Administrator Stephen L. Johnson—will discuss environmental issues of common interest to the three countries and the CEC’s operational program.

Public events begin 25 June, with North America 2030: An Environmental Outlook, a conference organized by the CEC’s Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC). This conference will feature expert and public discussion of the key economic and social trends expected to affect North America’s environment to 2030. Its focus will be the potential for cooperative solutions and will support the JPAC in its advisory role to the CEC Council.

On 26 June, the Council will hold its annual regular session, most of which will be open to the public. Council members will also participate in a public forum in which citizens may make oral presentations on matters relating to the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation or the CEC.

That same day, JPAC will hold its regular session to analyze possible recommendations to the Council regarding the prior day’s discussions. This session will be open to observers.

A preliminary agenda, including events open to the public, is now available online. Additional information and a registration form will be posted on the CEC website.
