CEC Council announces selection process for new executive director

Montreal, 8/06/2006 – The Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s (CEC) governing Council announced today that they have initiated a formal search for a new executive director for the organization.

The term of the current executive director, William V. Kennedy, ends on 31 August 2006. The next executive director selected by Council—the environment ministers, or equivalent, for Canada, Mexico and the United States—will be a Mexican, as the position rotates among nationals of the three parties to NAFTA and the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation.

The selection process began on 30 May with advertisements in several leading Mexican newspapers. Qualifications for the position include a minimum of 10 years of experience working on environmental issues. Candidates should have experience working on bilateral or multilateral environmental issues and in high-level management positions. Proficiency in Spanish as well as English or French is required.

Interested individuals may apply online at www.semarnat.gob.mx/seleccion/direjecutivo. A four-member evaluation committee will review applications and submit a short list of qualified candidates to Council members for their consideration.
