Update #2: Maize and biodiversity report

 
Montreal, 17/09/2004 – The Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) today updated the work plan for the completion of its independent report on Maize and Biodiversity: The Effects of Transgenic Maize in Mexico.

The Secretariat notes the following:

  1. The final report, including recommendations from the Maize and Biodiversity Advisory Group, was submitted to the CEC Council—the environment ministers of Canada, Mexico and the United States—on 13 September 2004.
  2. Article 13(3) of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation states: "The Secretariat shall submit its report to the Council, which shall make it publicly available, normally within 60 days following its submission, unless the Council otherwise decides."
