| Montreal, 17/09/2004 – The Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) today updated the work plan for the completion of its independent report on Maize and Biodiversity: The Effects of Transgenic Maize in Mexico.
The Secretariat notes the following:
- The final report, including recommendations from the Maize and Biodiversity Advisory Group, was submitted to the CEC Council—the environment ministers of Canada, Mexico and the United States—on 13 September 2004.
- Article 13(3) of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation states: "The Secretariat shall submit its report to the Council, which shall make it publicly available, normally within 60 days following its submission, unless the Council otherwise decides."
