Election of Donna Tingley as JPAC Chair for 2004

Montreal, 23/12/2003 – The Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is very pleased to announce that Donna Tingley was elected JPAC chair for a one-year term, beginning 1 January 2004. Ms. Tingley was appointed to JPAC by Canada in 1998.

"We are fortunate to have a great team and I am sure that next year, under the leadership of Ms. Tingley, we will benefit from her considerable experience in the context of the Ten-year Review of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation," stated Gustavo AlanĂs-Ortega, JPAC chair for 2003.

The CEC was established by Canada, Mexico and the United States to build cooperation among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners in implementing the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), the environmental side accord to NAFTA. The CEC addresses environmental issues of continental concern, with particular attention to the environmental challenges and opportunities presented by continent-wide free trade.

JPAC is a 15-member, independent, volunteer body that provides advice and public input to Council on any matter within the scope of NAAEC.

For more information, all JPAC and CEC official publications can be found on the CEC web site at <http://www.cec.org> or please contact Manon Pepin, JPAC Liaison Officer, at <mpepin@ccemtl.org>.
