Montreal, 18/05/2001 – A summary of the proceedings of NACEC’s workshop on "Forging Alliances to Prevent Industrial Pollution: New Approaches and Tools for Environmental Management" is now available.
The workshop focused on the role of pollutant release and transfer registers, public access to information, and environmental management systems as tools for sound environmental management and effective industry-community dialogue. It was attended by over 100 participants from industry, public interest organizations, government agencies and other interested groups from the border region and throughout Mexico, as well as from the United States and Canada. The workshop was organized through collaboration among the Dirección General de Ecología of the State of Baja California, the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (NACEC), and the Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Ecología (INE).
The summary highlights the main themes of the panel presentations, discussion, and comments from the audience over the two-day workshop. The full text of the proceedings contains more detailed descriptions of individual presentations and is available in English and Spanish, on the web site of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment and Security at <http://www.pacinst.org>.
