NAFTA Environment Ministers to Meet with Public in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

 
Montreal, 8/05/1997 – The Council of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) will be holding its 4th regular session June 11-13 in Pittsburgh at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The Council of the CEC is composed of environmental representatives of Canada, Mexico and the United States. The current members are Carol Browner, the U.S. EPA Administrator, Julia Carabias, the Mexican Secretary of State for Environment, Natural Resources and Fisheries, and Sergio Marchi, the Canadian Environment Minister.

A public consultation, led by the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the CEC, is being held during the Council session. The objective is to consult with the public on general environmental issues, and more particularly on these specific issues:

  • Long-Range Transport of Air Pollutants in North America
  • Voluntary Compliance with Environmental Laws in North America
  • Environmental Networking between North American Communities
