The Chair of the Joint Public
Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), Ms.
Regina Barba, is pleased to announce that Julia Carabias, Mexico's Secretary of Environment, Natural Resources and
Fisheries, has appointed a new JPAC member to represent Mexico, Ernesto Enkerlin of
Monterrey. Mr. Enkerlin is a well-known ecologist and author in Mexico. He is currently
the Executive Director of Pronatura Noreste.
With his strong and demonstrated commitment to citizen participation in
conservation, Ms. Barba is certain that he "will made an important contribution to the work of the Committee."
JPAC is composed of fifteen members, five from each of the three
countries, who are appointed by their respective governments. The members act
independently. The Committee acts as a single, transnational body with the responsibility
of providing the Council with advice on all matters within the scope of the North American
Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC).
