| Montreal, 27/07/2000 – A provisional agenda for the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation's (CEC) Symposium on Understanding the Linkages between Trade and the Environment is now available on the CEC's symposium web page.
The Symposium will take place in Washington, DC, 11-12 October 2000. During the two-day event, the findings of 14 original research papers will be presented, covering a broad range of issues revolving around the environmental effects of trade liberalization. Subjects will include the impacts of free trade on forestry, fisheries, freshwater; changes in pollution intensity and environmental quality; impacts on domestic environmental laws; as well as changes in the location of production due to environmental regulations.
The papers are being prepared by individuals and nongovernmental organizations from across Canada, Mexico and the United States (information on the papers is available on the CEC web site). The agenda consists of five panel sessions in which papers on common themes will be presented and discussants will provide their observations, followed by a discussion open to all participants.
The public is invited to attend and participate in the Symposium. Registration is free and on a first-come, first served basis. More than half of the available spaces for participants have now been booked. To register, or for further information, please contact Andrew Horsman at the CEC. |
