Montreal, 2/05/2001 – Tuesday, 15 May 2001, is the deadline for public comments on a draft report on lessons learned in the implementation of the Citizen Submission Process of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC). The submissions process enables citizens to play a 'whistle blower' role in drawing attention to alleged failures of governments to enforce environmental legislation effectively.
The report on the process was drafted by the CEC's Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) at the request of, and for consideration by, the CEC Council, the organization's governing body. It is the intention that the final report will be completed in time for the Council session and the next JPAC meeting scheduled for 27-29 June in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
For further information, please consult the Call for Comments, released 3 April 2001.
