Two New Canadian Nominations to the Joint Public Advisory Committee of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation

 
Montreal, 4/05/2001 – The Chair of the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), Ms. Liette Vasseur, is pleased to announce that Mr. David Anderson, Canada's Minister of the Environment, has nominated two new members to the JPAC, completing the delegation from Canada.

Ms. Ann Bourget, of Québec City, is president and executive director of Vivre en ville: Le regroupement québécois pour le dévloppement urbain, rural et villageois viable. Vivre en ville is a nongovernmental organization working to heighten public awareness of the principles related to sustainable development through urban/rural planning.

Ms. Merrell-Ann Phare, of Winnipeg, is executive director and legal counsel to the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER). The Centre was created for the purpose of establishing and implementing environmental capacity-building initiatives for First Nations.

The next JPAC meeting will take place in conjunction with the CEC Regular Session of Council hosted by Mexico in Guadalajara on 27-29 June 2001.

JPAC is a 15-member, independent, volunteer body that provides advice and public input to Council on any mater within the scope of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation.
