About Official Side Events and Official Side Event Workshops

The purpose of the WIREC 2008 Official Side Events (OSE) and Official Side Event Workshops (OSEW) was to enchance participant's capacity and knowledge across WIREC's thematic areas.  WIREC 2008 OSE and OSEW offered a unique chance for the world community to discuss the opportunities and challenges of a major, rapid, global scale-up of renewable energy and advance the goals of energy security, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. The Washington International Renewable Energy Conference consists of three co-located events: WIREC 2008 Ministerial-Level Meeting, Business Conference & Trade Show at WIREC 2008, and WIREC 2008 Official Side Events.

How were Official Side Events and Official Side Event Workshops Selected?

WIREC 2008 OSE and OSEW are a forum for non-governmental, governmental, and/or inter-governmental partners to showcase their projects and programs in front of a high level public and private sector audience. A selection committee was appointed to determine the Official Side Events, with final approval provided by the US Department of State. The firm Energy & Security Group (ESG) is administering the WIREC Official Side Events program, working closely with ACORE and the Department of State.
