2445: Vitamin K Absorption
Men and Women, Ages 18 - 40 and over 55
To learn how the body responds to different amounts of vitamin K in the diet |
Major Exclusions: |
- Smoking
- Diabetes
- Kidney or liver disease
- Cholesterol lowering medications
- Hormone therapy/ oral contraceptive use in the previous 3 months
- Warfarin or anticoagulant use in the previous 12 months
- Blood clotting disorder and/or abnormal clotting time
- Use of acid reducers more than twice a week
- Prescribed osteoporosis medications in the previous 3 months

1 visit in pre-diet phase; 3 visits per week for food pick-up in 62 day diet phase |
Residency: |
9 overnight stays |
Study Diet |
For 62 days, all foods provided by the HNRCA |
Payment: |
$15 for screening $1430 for study completion |
Can I Work? |
Yes, except for 2 of the 9 residency for study completion days |
- Length of study
Total length of the study including resident stays and nonresident visits.
This does not mean you will be testing the entire time.
- Residency
The length of time volunteers are required to stay overnight at the HNRCA. Residents have their own private room, bathroom, television, VCR, and phone during their stay.
- Payment
The amount of reimbursement for travel and inconvenience.
- Number of visits
Total number of nonresident visits.
- Study diet
Indicates meals which will be provided by the HNRCA.
- Can I work?
Indicates if you will be able to work and if so, when.
