AGNR Scholarships

Varieties of Scholarships

Freshmen admitted to the college will automatically be considered for college scholarships, listed below , based on the information provided on the university application. Freshmen awarded scholarships will subsequently be reviewed for renewal three additional years.

The Catherine M. Brinkley Fund is an interest-free loan available for qualifying students who are Maryland residents enrolled in AGNR.

Located in Room 0405 Marie Mount Hall, the National Scholarships Office assists students, campus scholarship representatives, faculty, and administrators in the identification and preparation of scholarship applications.

Scholarships administered outside the college are listed on this page. Applications for these scholarships must be sent directly to the specified organization.

To be considered for any financial aid or scholarships that are need-based, students should complete a FAFSA form obtained from their high school guidance office or their institutional financial aid office. Scholarships are also available through departments in the college and interested students should contact their advisor regarding availability.

College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Scholarships:

AGNR Alumni Association Scholarship
Awarded to agricultural students from a fund established by alumni and other donors for general agriculture and natural resources development 

Arthur M. Ahalt Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to an undergraduate majoring in agriculture or natural resources who has financial need and an FFA background.

Attorney General's Agricultural & Natural Resources Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduates who are Maryland Residents intending to pursue careers in fields related to agriculture and/or natural resources.

Eileen Barnett Scholarship

Awarded to students enrolled in the College who are active Maryland 4-H Club members.

Bruce and Donna Berlage Scholarship

Awarded to students in the College who are active Maryland 4-H Club members.

Chester F. Bletch Endowment

Awarded to a student whose career interest and studies focus on dairy science. 

Beltsville Garden Club Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate student who is a horticulture major. Preference given to Beltsville and Prince George's County resident.

Bowie-Crofton Garden Club Scholarship

Awarded to a deserving student enrolled in the college who has completed the freshman year and has a sincere interest in horticulture. Bowie/Crofton area residents are given priority.

Joseph Byrd Foundation Scholarship

Awarde to deserving students enrolled in the College. 

Jonas & Joan Cash Student Award
Awarded to deserving undergraduate agriculture and natural resources students.

Chapel Valley Landscape Honorary Scholarship

Awarded to a deserving undergraduate student with financial need who has a sincere interest in horticulture or landscape architecture.

George Earle Cook, Jr. Scholarship

Awarded to outstanding students majoring in plant science, or conservation & resource development in the college with an outstanding academic record, demonstrated ability, and character.

Ernest T. Cullen Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to deserving students in the college who graduated from a high school on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Jaime Dannemann Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to students in the College. Preference given to students enrolled in the animal sciences majors.

R.F. Davis Memorial Fund

Awarded to a deserving scholar with a broad interest in agriculture, preferably a Ph.D. student or graduate student, with a broad interest in agriculture. May be renewed annually as long as individual is pursuing the degree  and continues in good standing.

Jerry V. DeBarthe Memorial Scholarship

Awarded on academic merit to a deserving animal sciences major.

William R. DeLauder Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a student in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science. Established by Dick ('68) and Mary Jane De Lauder.

Mylo S. Downey Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to students in the College with preference to those with successful achievement in 4-H Club work. Based on financial need.

 Frank J. Duda Turfgrass Scholarship

Awarded to sophomores, juniors, or seniors enrolled in the four-year Turf and Golf Course Management program. Based on academic achievement.

James R. Ferguson Memorial Fund

Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need to students enrolled in animal sciences.

Kenneth S. Fowler Memorial Endowment

Created by Gayle Fowler and friends to provide scholarships to a junior or senior student majoring in landscape management.

Thomas A. Fretz Agriculture and Natural Resources Scholarship

Awarded to students in the College who exhibit outstanding leadership potential.

James & Sarah Goddard Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to deserving students who graduated from a Prince George's County high school and is a current resident of Prince George's County.

William D. Godwin Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to deserving undergraduate students in the College.

Kelvin Grant Scholarship

Awarded to students in the College who have personally helped advance the representation of minorities in the field of agriculture. Recipients must be in academic good standing, who, without financial assistance, would be unable to complete their degree. Transfer students may be considered. 

Manasses J. & Susanna Jarboe Grove

Awarded to students entering the junior or senior class preparing for a career in agronomy, animal sciences, or horticulture. Recipient must have been born, educated in, and be a legal resident of Frederick County, Maryland.

H. Palmer Hopkins Endowed Scholarship Fund Established by Charles and Ellen Kirby Coale

Awarded to students enrolled in the College who intend to pursue a career in agricultural science education. Preference to students who are initiating their graduate work.

Donald Leishear International Programs Fund

Established to provide annual support for reimbursement expenses associated with international travel for students enrolled in the College. Priority given to students seeking travel to an underdeveloped region.

Lee Majeskie Dairy Youth Scholarship

Awarded to students in good academic standing enrolled in an animal sciences major in the College. Preference given to students in the dairy science curriculum. 

Maryland Greenhouse Growers Association Scholarship

Awarded to a deserving horticulture student enrolled in the College.


John R. and Marjorie C. Moore International Agricultural and Natural Resources Student Travel Fund

Awarded to students in the college to support international experiences.

James & Dessie Moxley Scholarship

Awarded to students in the college pursuing degrees in natural resource sciences and landscape architecture with specific focus on horticulture, landscape management, and landscape architecture.

Paul R. Poffenberger Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled in the college who shows the greatest potential for making significant contributions to education and development in agriculture.

Jennifer Russo Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Russo family and friends to provide scholarships to deserving students enrolled in the College.

Ross & Pauline Smith Fund

Awarded to provide financial support to an outstanding student enrolled in the college.

J. Herbert Snyder Educational Fund

Awarded for the freshman and sophomore years only to students who are residents of Frederick County with a preference to citizens of Walkersville showing financial need and high standards of scholarship.

Southern States Cooperative Scholarship

Awarded to two freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors, and two seniors each year who are deserving daughters/sons of agricultural producers. Must be active members of FFA or 4-H.

Hiram I. Stine Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a student with a grade point average of B or better. May be renewed. Preference to a student from Brunswick or  Frederick County, MD.

T.B. Symons Memorial Fund

Awarded annually to a student enrolled in agriculture on the basis of academic achievement and financial need to a student enrolled in agriculture.

Vansville Farmers Club Scholarship

Awarded based on need and merit, to deserving students enrolled in the College. First preference will be given to Maryland residents who have indicated their desire to become engaged in agriculture or an agriculturally related profession. 

A.F. Vierheller Award Fund

Awarded to undergraduate juniors or seniors who demonstrate unusual diligence and interest in horticulture.

Siegfried Weisberger, Jr. Memorial Fund

Awarded to provide financial support for students enrolled in the college.

Theo & Georgianna Miles Weiss Memorial Fund

Awarded on basis of merit and financial need to a sophomore or junior in the college. Preference given to an Eastern Shore high school graduate with interest in teaching.

WR Winslow Foundation Scholarship

Awarded to deserving students enrolled in the College in general areas of agriculture or pre-veterinary medicine who are in need of financial aid and who are residents of Maryland (preferably Montgomery County), the District of Columbia, or North Carolina.

Catherine M. Brinkley Loan Fund

This fund provides interest free loans to students who are Maryland natives or residents, pursuing majors in the College. Students are required to have a Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file and to submit a completed application. The Office of Financial Aid determines eligibility and award distribution.

Travel and Study Abroad Scholarships

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers a variety of opportunities for students to travel to exotic locations, absorbing the culture while completing credits towards their academic program. Limited funds are available for study and travel abroad. one scholarship in particular is for travel and study in developing countries. Upon submission of application for scholarships towards travel and study abroad programs, students will be required to present material to the college verifying the usage of scholarship funds for their travel/study program. This can be in the form of an email from the program organizer or supporting materials such as a plane or eticket
