Posted On: Jan 14 2009 10:47PM

....great sledding

...beautiful scenery

...Minot's landscape has changed...we now have HILLS!!!! (of snow)

...people in other parts of the country think we are really tough! (and we are!!!)

any others?  I'm trying to keep a positive attitude and it's getting hard.  Hopefully you all can help.

Minoters ARE tough! You just don't realize it until you move to a southern climate for a few years and then come back home to minus temps....and wonder how in the world you stood it so long! People in Minnesota whine when it goes down to 30 degrees, and they never have to plug in cars or wear MITTENS....so that your fingers stay together and WARM. We seldom EVER scrape windshields here. This week and  part of last is the coldest I've ever seen it here in the Twin Cities. It's supposed to get to -25 here ... unheard of this far south. Yes, Minoters are tougher than they realize.

Please tell me you weren't considering the Twin Cities a southern climate......

When I said southern climate, I was referring to where the snowbirds go, but comparing a southern MN winter to ND is almost like southern climate to northern climate as far as I'm concerned. Winters where I live in MN are sissy winters compared to ND.

I didn't realize all the attention ND is getting until my Dad (near Detroit, MI) told me about some of the weird questions he's been getting from his friends.

Things like  "Is it really that cold there?" (no, the weather channel is lying),
"Isn't it too cold to snow?"  (yup.  just look out what used to be my garage window - into the back side of a snow drift!),
"What did they do to deserve all that snow?"  (we're just EVIL here!), and the best one
"Is it expected to thaw anytime?" (nope, just snow in August).

Some people!  And to think these people are counted on as friends to my family!

Just thought of another real benefit for all this snow - there won't be a single roofer out of work this year!

roofing will be great, barring a cold wet spring into summer and no hail storms we could have a helluva crop season.

Wait just a minute, the original post implies that Minot had no hills prior to the arrival of this winter's snow flake accumulations.  I must argue against that concept, having driven and walked many of the hills of Minot.  For example, 3rd St SE from the Courthouse going south.  Don't you consider that a "hill"?  And 16th St. from Burdick Ex. south to the By-pass.  Not a "hill"?  And the sledding hill at the High School?  And north of MSU?  No matter where you are in Minot, there is a hill nearby.

I have two more years in ND,I can't wait to get away from the snow and cold! I'll never come here in the winter months, that I promise!

Summer is great for fishing and fall hunting is great, but other than that I hate ND! Over 50+ years of seeing and living snow is enough for this old dog!(ha ha)
