Gay Marriage Advocates Distribute Maps To Proposition 8 Supporter Homes

The other day I posted about supporters of Proposition 8 wanting their campaign fund disclosures to be sealed from the public.  In my post I said that I didn’t think that was a good idea.  The importance of transparency in government and politics is too important to be set aside, and it sets a dangerous precedent whereby other campaigns could request that their donors be made secret as well

But I did say that I empathized with the Proposition 8 campaign (full disclosure: I support gay marriage) given the behavior of certain “gay rights” activists.  This latest news cements that empathy:

Radical opponents of Proposition 8, the proposition that democratically amended the California constitution to define marriage as the union of one man with one woman, have used a variety of tools to alter, and then reject, the popular will of Californians. They tried running vile ads that unfairly targeted groups such as Mormons. When that failed, they resorted to violence and brutal assaults

And now, they’ve crossed the line once again. They have posted maps online that very clearly show the addresses of those who donated money to the Prop 8 cause (supporting traditional marriage), including even small donors who gave $50 or less.

For better or worse, the people of California have spoken on the issue of gay marriage in a fair election.  Intimidation and thuggish behavior arent how citizens of a free society react to a defeat like that

The proper response is to keep fighting for your issue.  Educate your fellow citizens.  Explain why theyre wrong.  Dont try to ruin their lives in petty revenge plots motivated by frustration and anger.  That will only solidify their beliefs and ultimately do more damage to your own movement than anything the opposition could do

There is no map that lists the home address of anyone that donated to support Prop 8. In fact the posting that Paul has looks like it has seen a bit of photoshopping. Next time you try to be a journalist maybe you should check your facts before looking biased.

Posted by TomWins on Jan 13 2009 9:23PM - While I don't want anyone to be harassed, I would like to point out two things.
1.Being fired, threatened, beat up, kicked out of their home, killed, etc is something gay people have endured at the hands of others for centuries. So let's stop all the attacks and harassment - on both sides.
2. Those who supported Prop 8 have frequently cried that the people have spoken and those opposed to Prop 8 should "Shut up" and "respect the vote of the people." Voters of CA voted to have disclosure of political donations. But now that Prop 8 supporters don't like a measure passed by the voters of CA, they are appealing to the Supreme Court to nullify the voice of the voters. Prop 8 took away my right to marry and now the supporters are appealing to the CA Supreme Count to force me to divorce.
Oh the hypocrisy of it all.
Prop 8 supporters are not calling upon principals of democracy or legality for their positions. They will argue anything and say anything as long as it gets them what they want. This is disrespectful to democracy, our legal system, the voters, and our society.

Posted by mronken on Jan 14 2009 12:30PM - Note to Rick.heintz: the map is up on a popular site named "Prop 8 Maps". Here's the link: http://www.eightmaps.com/.
Maybe you should also also do a lot more research before criticizing someone on your own side of the prop 8 issue.
Note to TomWins: I totally agree on point 1. On point 2 I agree on your principle, but your facts are not accurate. The current law on political donations applies disclosure only for donations to political campaigns, like the presidency, not to laws or propositions. But your principle is well taken.
I fear for the division this is creating in our state & country.
I do have one important question, no to stir arguement, but for my personal information. What legal rights, or laws, specifically are denied gays in California that they would get if allowed to be married? I've never seen an actual list.
