This brief discusses the experiences of 51 rural independently-owned pharmacies one year after implementation of the new Medicare Part D program to determine whether initial financial and administrative problems were resolved over time. It focuses on pharmacies that are the sole providers in their community and provides details on the study methods and results. The brief lists key findings, respondents' comments, suggestions, and actions that can be taken to address challenges faced by these pharmacies
