Hubbell Seminar, February 6th: Dr. Barbara S. Lollar
Dr. Sherwood Lollar is a pioneer in the use of specific stable isotopes to trace the fate and transport of contaminants in the subsurface. She has won numerous awards, and in 2000 was named one of TIME Magazine's "Leaders for the 21st Century" based on her research on innovative techniques for tracking organic contaminants in groundwater. Dr. Lollar is Professor of Geology at the University of Toronto. February 6th, 3:00pm, 282 JWRU.
Fall Newsletter Now Available
The Fall issue of our Myakka newsletter is now available! In this issue we highlight Microbial Ecology programs in soil, water, and environmental science. Be sure to check out the new Alumni section, highlighting the activities of some of our past graduates.
Dr. Teplitski's First Responders Video
Dr. Max Teplitski developed a case study video for First Responders Online Training, in which he offers simple tests that can be conducted to help first responders determine which pathogen they are dealing with. View the video or read the article.

Congratulations to Faculty Award Recipients

Dr. Yuncong Li received the Wachovia Award for his distinguished record of implementing creative, innovative educational programs in the public policy arena of land and water use, urban/rural interface, families and children, environmental quality, human resources development and competitiveness/trade.

Dr. Tom Obreza received the Dallas Townsend Award for demonstrating an outstanding ability to plan and implement Extension Programs that address needs which have been identified in consultation with their clientele.
New Certificate Programs
The Soil and Water Science Department announces graduate-level Certificate Programs in Sustainable Land Resource and Nutrient Management, Soil Ecosystem Services, and Wetland and Water Resource Management. The courses are offered entirely online and are available to on-campus students as well. Click the link for more information or contact Sabine Grunwald.
