Recreation Fees and Pass InformationThe Forest Service offers many activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, camping, birding, using cabins, driving for pleasure, harvesting mushrooms, and gathering firewood. Many of the facilities and services associated with these opportunities are free. Some do require fees or permits to help maintain, manage and improve the amenities that you enjoy. To learn more about recreation fees and the various pass options available, visit the Pacific Northwest recreation fees and passes (http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/index.shtml) website. A Northwest Forest Pass is needed at participating trailheads where recreation user fees are required. The pass is valid at any national forest in Washington or Oregon and costs is $30 for an annual pass and $5 for a day pass. The money goes directly towards trail and trailhead maintenance. A Northwest Forest Pass can be purchased on-line at: http://www.naturenw.org/store-passes.htm, or by calling Nature of the Northwest, toll free, at (1-800-270-7504). **NOTE: The Umatilla National Forest does not have any trailheads participating in the Northwest Forest Pass at this time. A pass is not required for day-use at any trailhead on the Umatilla National Forest.**
