This 5- to 6-hour, 2-module course provides an introduction to hazardous materials concepts and
practices. It is predicated on participants’ mastery of the hazardous materials Independent Study course (IS-5) prior to enrollment. It covers basic principles of preparedness, the role of local communities, and the hazards presented by chemicals in transportation or fixed-site threats. Each participant must be familiar with IS-5 rinciples before enrolling in this class.
Selection Criteria: State and local personnel with a responsibility for hazardous materials.
