The Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Entomology in conjunction with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Entomology. This person will join a dynamic program that is focusing on the development of sustainable, systems-level, ecologically based solutions to problems in vegetable crop production and management. The position is a 12-month tenure-track appointment; 30% research, 50% extension, and 20% teaching in the area of integrated management of vegetable pests. This position will be housed at the East Lansing campus of MSU, and reports to the Chairperson of the Entomology Department.

 The incumbent will contribute to the missions of CANR, the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES), and MSU Extension. The principal responsibilities are to develop relevant and innovative research, extension and teaching programs for sustainable production of vegetable crops and vegetable cropping systems in Michigan. The program will be recognized locally, nationally and internationally for excellence and impact. The individual will also be responsible for on-going needs assessment and extension program development, delivery, and evaluation.

The incumbent is expected to secure significant extramural funding.

The incumbent will participate actively in graduate student education and will develop a strong teaching program.

The incumbent will also be expected to interact extensively with producers, agents, consultants, industry personnel and other stakeholders. Collaboration with other MSU faculty is essential; interdisciplinary collaboration is expected. Applied research responsibilities should support the extension program through development of improvement IPM technologies and approaches for current and emerging pests of field crops. It is expected that research will address priority arthropod management issues at the levels of the individual crop and landscape, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Entomology or related field. Qualifications other than degree:  relevant training and experience in vegetable crops entomology, and a strong commitment to outstanding extension, teaching and research. Candidates should have demonstrated outstanding capacity for intellectual curiosity, creativity, leadership, and collaboration with local, regional, national and international colleagues. Strong scientific writing and technical presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team are advantages. Demonstrated commitment to promotion and enhancing diversity are essential. The successful applicant will articulate a vision for the future of entomology, and commitment to the philosophy of MSU as both a Land Grant and World Grant Institution.
