Youth Congress to hold 2nd regular session today

The 11th CNMI Youth Congress will hold its second regular session today with 13 resolutions calendared for discussion and adoption.

The first resolution to be tackled pertains to the mandate of the Department of Public Safety to remove dead animals from public highways and roads and then contact the Department of Public Health's Health and Sanitation Division for its proper disposal.

The resolution was introduced by Adeleyah C. Mojica.

Three resolutions introduced by Alana May Leon Guerrero, Mojica and John A. Ayuyu intend to congratulate the awardees in the Public School System 2009 Teacher of the Year, including James Phillips of Marianas High School (overall), Rosa M. Sablan of Kagman Elementary School (Teacher Aide), and Patricia Aguon Cruz of MHS (Support Staff).

Another resolution by Jessel M. Messa is to request the 16th CNMI Legislature and DPH to appropriate sufficient funds for health clinics in Kagman High School, Rota High School, Saipan Southern, and Tinian High School.

Mojica is also requesting all mayors to provide recycle bins within villages and public schools to promote recycling and provide for educational resources on recycling.

Leon Guerrero wants DPS, Office of Adult Probation and Board of Parole to implement stricter enforcement and monitoring of registered sexually violent predators.

Min Seon Park, Aesha D. Sablan and Charlyn S. Techur introduced a resolution commending the outstanding accomplishment of the Associated Students of NMC for providing continual support in both academic and recreational activities for the student body of NMC.

Johora A. Paedal is requesting the Legislature to appropriate sufficient funding to purchase sport equipment for Rota High School, Rota Junior High School, and Sinapalo Elementary School.

Maegan Norita is requesting lawmakers to appropriate funds on the repair and maintenance of the beach side pavilions and site beautification in the northern precincts.

Sunny Frank Aldan is requesting the Legislature to accommodate students' participation from each senatorial district in the Close Up program.

Aldan also wants the Legislature to convene sessions during the upcoming 2009 Youth Summit.

He also wants the Legislature to amend the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance Act to include high school honor students taking college courses.

Ayuyu also introduced a resolution to request the Legislature to appropriate funds for a Rota High School Gymnasium to serve the youth and the community of Rota by establishing a sports recreational center.
