Sales for duck race doing well

Organizers of the first Duck Race for Cancer said their sales of rubber ducks are going “quite well.”

Linsey Sosovec, sports manager for Pacific islands Club, reported yesterday total sales of $1,350 for 270 rubber ducks.

Organizers have allotted a total of 2009 rubber ducks to be used for the upcoming race on Feb. 21 at PIC's lazy river.

This event is part of the hotel's effort to raise funds for the fight against cancer.

Each duck costs $5, with the winner bringing home the grand prize of $1,000.

Sosovec said they are giving only one prize because the rest of the proceeds will be spent on the cause and not on prizes.

“We still have many ducks available as we are trying to sell 2,009 ducks. The community has been incredibly excited and supportive. I am hoping to sell out before the race,” she said.

Sosovec said all buyers would keep their ducks after the race.

Each buyer will get a corresponding number for his duck and automatically qualify for the race.

Those who want to buy a duck may visit the PIC sports department for payment. Winners don't need to be present at the race in order to qualify for the grand prize.

All the proceeds from this event will go to the Marianas March Against Cancer.

During the race, the ducks will be launched from the Point Break slide. They will go down the slide and complete one revolution in the lazy river. The owner of the duck who crosses the finish line first will receive the grand prize.
