Past Program Activities, 2003–2008 Wisconsin,
2003–2008
From March 2003–February 2008, the
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction received funding from CDC’s
Division of Adolescent and School Health to promote coordinated school
health, provide HIV prevention education, and conduct the Youth Risk
Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on Wisconsin's

Past Program Activities
Promoted Coordinated School Health with an Emphasis on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Tobacco
Use Prevention (PANT)
- Provided professional development on effective curricula,
instruction, and assessment regarding physical activity, nutrition,
tobacco use prevention, and related health issues to increase the skills
and knowledge of educators.
- Sponsored activities for students and family members to promote
physical activity that is consistent with CDC guidelines on increasing
physical activity.
- Collaborated with the Governor’s Office and the Wisconsin
Department of Health & Family Services to sponsor a school awards
program that recognizes Wisconsin schools that develop policies,
programs, and infrastructure to create and maintain healthy school
environments.
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Maintained the Wisconsin Youth Sexual Behaviors Web site, which
connects clinicians, educators, students, parents, and others statewide
to a common source of data for program planning and collaborative
efforts.
- Developed and implemented a 2-day institute on evidence-based
principles of HIV
prevention and theories for school and community-based
educators.
- Maintained the Educators’ Resource Center for Youth Sexual Risk
Behavior Prevention web site to provide information and resources for
program development and evidence-based practices.
- Collaborated with the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council to provide
technical assistance and resources that strengthen tribes’ HIV
prevention programming for Native American youth.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Collaborated with the Wisconsin Department of Health & Family
Services to disseminate the results of the YRBS and encouraging use of
the results to guide program planning.
- Developed a press release, executive summary, detailed results
summary, trend graphs, and classroom activities to report
the YRBS results.
