From March 2003–February 2008, the
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Public School System
received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to
provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
(YRBS).For information on CNMI's

Past Program Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Provided a framework for all new classroom teachers to use in
assessing students’ knowledge and skills relative to HIV prevention
education.
- Provided ongoing professional development and resources relative to
the evidence-based program Reducing the Risk for secondary
classroom teachers new to the CNMI public schools.
- Provided materials and training relative to cultural competency and
skill building to address the needs of youth at highest risk for HIV
infection.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Administered the YRBS in high schools to obtain data representative
of all students in grades 9 −12.
- Disseminated the results of the YRBS to key stakeholders throughout
the islands for the purposes of programmatic decision making, planning,
and development.
