Past Program Activities, 2003–2008
Mississippi, 2003–2008

From March 2003–February 2008, Mississippi received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).

Past Program Activities

Provided HIV Prevention Education

  • Promoted the use of the “Mississippi Guide for Developing HIV Policies and Programs” to all local education agencies.
     
  • Distributed and administered mini-grant funds to school districts located in areas with elevated rates of HIV/STD infection to establish comprehensive HIV prevention programs for school-age youth.
     
  • Distributed an HIV evaluation framework to assess current efforts and identify gaps in delivery of HIV prevention education in public schools.

Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administered the YRBS to monitor critical health behaviors of youth within the state.
     
  • Developed an annual YRBS report with input from partner organizations.
     
  • Shared the YRBS results with stakeholders throughout the state.
