State Agencies New Jersey
The
New Jersey Department of Education receives funding from CDC’s Division of
Adolescent and School Health to promote coordinated school health, provide
HIV prevention education, and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).
The goals of the CSHP program are to increase the number of schools
implementing effective Coordinated School Health Programs and promoting
physical activity, healthy eating, and tobacco use prevention. The goal of
the New Jersey HIV prevention education program is to prevent HIV infection
among youth by providing opportunities for technical assistance and
professional development for instructional staff in the state’s public
schools and juvenile justice facilities. The New Jersey Department of
Education focuses resources specifically on schools in geographic regions of
the state with relatively high rates of HIV or STDs and on populations for
which there is evidence of disproportionate risk
