Fresno
Unified School District (FUSD) in California receives funding from CDC’s
Division of Adolescent and School Health to implement an asthma management
program. The goal of the FUSD asthma management program is to improve the
health and academic success of Fresno’s children by promoting asthma
management through a coordinated school health approach.
Fresno's Program In Action
Asthma Management
- Providing asthma management classes to students diagnosed with
asthma using the American Lung Association of California Kickin’
Asthma curriculum.
- Providing asthma awareness training to parents of students diagnosed
with asthma and those who have been identified as potentially having
asthma.
- Providing training to physical education teachers from all secondary
schools to increase awareness of strategies for helping students with
asthma engage in a standards-based physical education curriculum.
