The
Newark Public School District receives funding from CDC’s Division of
Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education. The goals
of the Newark Public School District’s HIV prevention education program
include providing high-quality, developmentally-appropriate HIV prevention
instruction for all middle school students and expanding the pilot Teen
Prevention Education Program (Teen PEP) to support HIV prevention education
in all high schools.

Prevention Education
- Developing HIV prevention education lessons for students in grades
6, 7, and 8.
- Designing and piloting curriculum-based professional development
workshops and in-school support for middle school physical
education/health teachers, school support staff, and district physical
education/health education supervisory staff.
- Selecting Teen PEP peer educators and conducting training sessions
for Teen PEP teachers and advisors.
