Past Program Activities, 2003–2008
Detroit, Michigan — 2003–2008

From March 2003–February 2008, the Detroit Public School District in Michigan received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to develop and implement an asthma prevention program and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).

Past Program Activities

Addressed Asthma

  • Provided asthma education and awareness programs for students and school staff.
     
  • Provided a safe and healthy school environment to reduce asthma triggers by establishing management and support systems for students with asthma and making available appropriate school health and mental health services.
     
  • Coordinated school, family, and community efforts to better manage asthma symptoms and reduce school absences among students with asthma.

Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Developed reports to summarize the results of the YRBS and make the materials available in print and online.
     
  • Disseminated YRBS data to school staff and administrators.
     
  • Provided training for school staff and administrators on interpretation of YRBS data.
