Past Program Activities, 2003–2008
Alaska, 2003–2008

From March 2003–February 2008, the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The funded programs were developed and delivered in collaboration with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.

Past Program Activities

Provided HIV Prevention Education
  • Provided leadership in health policy development related to HIV prevention.
     
  • Provided state-of-the-art, Web-based, no-cost, distance learning modules in HIV prevention for K−12 educators.
     
  • Conducted statewide and local professional development in Health Education Standards and Assessments.

Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Collected data that are representative of youth in grades 9−12 across the state through a collaborative effort between the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development and the Alaska Department of Health & Social Services.
     
  • Distributed the results of the YRBS to statewide agencies, school districts, legislative committees, and interested community-based organizations.
     
  • Used YRBS data to assess programmatic needs in the state.
