Indiana, 2003–2008
From March 2003–February 2008, Indiana received funding from CDC’s
Division of Adolescent and School Health to promote coordinated school
health, provide HIV prevention education, and conduct the Youth Risk
Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on Indiana's

Past Program Activities
Promoted Coordinated School Health with an Emphasis on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Tobacco
Use Prevention (PANT)
- Provided professional development to school districts on how to
implement Coordinated School Health Advisory Councils, as required by
state law.
- Collaborated with the Indiana State Department of Health to support
two new initiatives, INShape Indiana and the INSight Youth Corps, aimed
at reducing obesity and improving health behaviors of children and
adolescents.
- Conducted the first Midwest Regional Communities Aligned Toward
Children’s Health (CATCH Indiana) Coordinated School Health Program
Conference, a mega conference hosted by community-based organizations,
to support the eight components of coordinated school health.
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Identified and distributed resources related to HIV/ STD and
pregnancy prevention to all local school districts.
- Developed standard procedures to guide the process used by the
HIV/AIDS Advisory Panel to evaluate HIV prevention resources and clarify
panel members’ responsibilities.
- Developed a cadre of trainers to conduct regional professional
development events on the Get Real About AIDS curricula.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Collaborated with the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation
Program to minimize the burden of administering multiple surveys in
schools and increase the likelihood of receiving representative data.
- Provided training for administrators in each district on how to
administer the YRBS.
- Distributed YRBS data to all Indiana middle schools, high schools,
and other interested stakeholders.
