2003–2008
From March 2003–February 2008, the
Texas Education Agency received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent
and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth
Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on Texas'

Past Program Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Provided professional development on HIV prevention to regional
Education Service Center health specialists.
- Used the trained regional Education Service Center health
specialists to provide HIV prevention training to instructional staff in
schools in each of the state’s regions.
- Provided training and support to the regional Education Service
Center health specialists in gathering and interpreting HIV/STD data to
inform program planning.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Disseminated the results of the YRBS to a statewide audience of
school administrators, government officials, professional association
meetings, Parent-Teacher Association meetings, parents, communities, and
other stakeholders.
- Used the survey results to improve, develop, and implement programs
and policies that address the risk behaviors of Texas youth.
