Plant Natives ~ Plant Organically
National Garden Clubs, Inc., President Barbara May announces her President's Project: School Gardens emphasizing her theme: Nurture the Earth: Plant Natives ~ Plant Organically.
The objective of the project will target elementary grade schools. Students, with the guidance of the teacher and sponsoring garden clubs, will be encouraged to create diverse native gardens. The school classroom will be the garden laboratory; the students and teachers will be engaged in the education of the native plants, the use of organic methods of both floral and vegetable gardening and the global impact of native plants in our environment throughout out the United States and South America.
The creation of the school garden project has no boundaries; it a can be a small/large, portable/stationary, but must incorporate the education and reason of sustainability of our native plants.
Project Requirements and the application Procedure are as follows:
I. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
1. A Federated club will sponsor the School Garden Project.
2. The School Garden Projects based in elementary classroom or on school grounds will:
a. Focus and study the importance of Native plants, in the appropriate zone;
b. Create a garden. The School Garden Project has no boundaries; it a can be a small/large, portable/stationary; and,
c. Must incorporate some education of native plants.
3. The school garden project must be a NEW project or a NEW PHASE of an existing school or classroom garden.
II. APPLICATION:
To receive NGC Certificate of Participation:
1. The sponsoring garden club must submit 1 page original and a copy of the report by December 2007 or December 2008 with COMPLETE contact information :
Garden Club and Project Chairman or Contact Information.
The contact person must be a federated garden club member.

III. AWARDS:
National Garden Clubs, Inc. certificates will be presented during the Regional Meetings at the 2008-2009 NGC Conventions.
1. Each local Garden Club, Region, State, and International Affiliates will be acknowledged with a NGC certificate by submitting an application form, to the appropriate Chair by December 2008 or by December 2009, promoting NGC School Garden Project, emphasizing the President's theme Nurture the Earth: Plant Native ~ Plant Organically.
2. Each local Garden Club, Region, State, and International Affiliates participating School will be acknowledged with a NGC certificate for promoting NGC School Garden Project, emphasizing the President's theme Nurture the Earth: Plant Native ~ Plant Organically.
3. A National Garden Clubs, Inc. certificate will be awarded to participating clubs that promote the School Garden Project with a "Special Exhibit" at any of their meetings or as an Exhibit at a Standard Flower Show.
• Each Exhibit is required to list the School(s), Grade(s), City/Town(s) and title of the project (if any).
• Each Exhibit should note the benefits derived from both the school/students and the sponsoring club.
• A photo of the School Gardens Educational Exhibit entered in a Standard
Flower Show will be required. All entries and photo's will become the property of NGC.
