Invasive Alien Species (IAS) are plants, animals and micro-organisms that, when introduced outside of their natural past or present distribution, spread and cause serious and often irreversible damage to Canada's native ecosystems, economy and society.

Preventing and managing invasive species will strengthen Canada's long-term competitiveness, protect its natural environment, and contribute to the well-being of its citizens.
